Dear 1st Time Pregnant Mama,
I am so excited to hear that you are pregnant! There is so much that I would like to share with you about being pregnant and having babies. However, I’m only going to tell you a few things, since every mom’s journey is so different. Things that worked for me won’t necessarily work for you and you might want to figure it all out on your own.
So, here are the top 4 things that I would like to share with you:
1. Decide what kind of birth you want and then prep for it.
I have talked with many women who want an all natural and wonderful birth but then just show up and think it’s going to happen. Sometimes it does but usually birth is something you have to prepare for and have tools and techniques to work with. No one shows up to a marathon without any training and expect to do really well. I recommend a good prenatal class and really learn what they are teaching because in the heat of the moment, when the contractions are coming on strong, you won’t be able to sit there are think ‘what did the lady say I should do now?’. You want it to become second nature.
This is the one I take. And you probably won’t do this anyways but don’t use pregnancy as an excuse to pig out! Your baby needs good nutrients and foods to grow. One thing that helped me to not eat too much junk food is that every time i was tempted to, I would ask myself if my baby was born would I want him to eat it. Of course, I would still eat some junk food but that helped me to tone it down.
3. Check out this website about baby sleep.
I don’t know if it was just my experience or what but I really wish someone would have told me more about babies and sleep. I had no idea that babies shouldn’t be awake for long periods of time and when they are, they sleep worse because they become over-stimulated and their brains can’t shut off. I also wish someone would have told me about sleep associations. Anyways, I learnt all of this after we let our first baby ‘cry-it-out’ for hours and it’s been WAY easier with our second.
4. Don’t listen to anyone’s advice and do your research! 🙂
Please let me know if you have any questions! I am in no way a pregnancy expert but I have done tons of research. I wish you all the best in this new journey!
